Add a traditional architectural detail to your structure with this Classic Six-Panel Wooden Door. Featuring six recessed panels in a period-style arrangement, the door includes a detailed knob and decorative backplate that can be picked out with metallic paint for additional realism.
The timeless design makes it suitable for a wide variety of residential, commercial, institutional, and civic buildings, from homes and apartments to offices, hotels, schools, police stations, and railroad structures.
The raised and recessed molding provides plenty of definition for washes, dry brushing, wood-grain effects, and weathering.
History
The six-panel door became one of the most recognizable styles of American interior and exterior doors during the 18th and 19th centuries and remained common well into the 20th century. Traditionally constructed from separate wooden rails, stiles, and inset panels, the design helped accommodate the natural expansion and contraction of solid wood while also creating an attractive architectural pattern.
By the late 19th and early 20th centuries, advances in millwork and mass production made paneled doors widely available for everything from modest homes to offices, schools, hotels, and public buildings. Because the design remained popular for generations, a six-panel door is particularly versatile for modeling structures from the Victorian era through the mid-20th century and beyond.
